Decisions are being made today that have political, financial, moral, and spiritual implications for our nation, state, and city. The outcome of this election (on all levels) will affect our lives for years to come. Even so, it’s an honor to have the freedom to pray and vote!
No matter who wins or loses the election, Jesus Christ is still reigning and leading come Wednesday morning. What does our nation (and our city) need? I want to give you a number of words and Scripture verses to read, study, and meditate on.
- Repentance ~ “Lord, we confess our sin and turn to You.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
- Revival ~ “Lord, revive our hearts to love You again.”
Psalm 85:4-7 – “Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us! Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger to all generations? Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.”
- Intercession ~ “Lord, we pray for those in authority.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2 – “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”
- Worship ~ “Lord, we confess our desperation for You.”
Psalm 33:12 – “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!”
- Obedience ~ “Lord, we pray to keep the main thing the main thing.”
Matthew 28:18-20 – “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
I’m asking the Lord to turn our hearts back to Him, to send a mighty revival in our day, to lead us to pray for our leaders, to confess our desperation for Him, and to equip us to carry out the Great Commission. Will you join me in praying for these spiritual needs?
In the morning, God is still going to be God, Jesus is still going to be Lord, the Bible is still going to be true, and the tomb is still going to be empty! In Rom. 8:31, Paul asked, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” I’ve read the end of the story. There’s victory in Jesus!
