I Love to Tell the Story

The words of this great hymn by Katherine Hankey have been playing over and over in my mind as I think about the 2016 Singing Christmas Tree. It’s what the tree is all about. It’s the very reason we have the tree; we love to tell the story of Jesus! Granted, this is not a “Christmas” hymn, but it does capture the essence of our passion for worship celebrations like the Singing Christmas Tree. Consider these excerpts:

I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;
It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.

I love to tell the story, for those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.

I love to tell the story, for some have never heard
The message of salvation from God’s own holy Word.

We sing the story of Jesus, especially at Christmastime, because for those of us who know the story, it satisfies our souls to hear it over and over! But we also tell it, because even in a place like Tallahassee, many people have never heard it. By the way, the choir and the fanfare was God’s idea, not ours. Remember, the angel and a multitude of the heavenly host first announced it to the shepherds in Luke 2. So it is quite fitting for us to make a big deal out of the story of our salvation. We need it and Jesus deserves it!

Bradfordville’s 2016 Singing Christmas Tree will be presented Friday, Dec. 9, Saturday, Dec. 10 and Sunday, Dec. 11. Mark your calendars and consider being a part of the production.

The worship choir recently spent a weekend on retreat introducing ourselves to the music. Rehearsals for orchestra begin this week. We are excited to add some dramatic elements and a light-hearted opening to the production this year to engage the audience in the story.

You can help us tell the story in significant ways:

  1. Pray! Please pray for the choir and orchestra as we prepare in these weeks leading up to the tree.
  2. Sing with us. We have plenty of room on the tree for additional singers. We would love to have “a multitude” of singers! The Christmas choir rehearses at 7:30 pm each Wednesday. If the Lord has given you a voice to sing, don’t dismiss the idea before at least praying about it.
  3. Help construct the tree. The weekend prior to the tree we need a crew to assemble and decorate the tree. Commit now to be a part of that team.
  4. Spread the word! Invite your friends and family, especially those who don’t have a relationship with Christ. We will have tickets/invitations available by Thanksgiving. Contact Eddie Turner or 933-2325 to be a part of the team. Let me know if you have a question also. I look forward to hearing from you.

May the Lord bless this telling of His Story!
